Location: Ziwu Road, Qujing, China

Number of intersections: 5

This case study is an example of Green Traffic Software tool applied to a real urban city arterial. Ziwu Road runnning north-south is an important urban arterial with large traffic flow. It is 2360 m long and contains 5 intersections with all of them having left turns. The peculiarity of this arterial is that its portrait is almost full.

For the given set of phase splits in all arterial intersections, GTS provides multiple coordination schemes.

Input arterial data:

  Number of traffic lights

  Distances between them

  Recommended vehicle velocity

  Split phasing

Cycle lengths and the desired   common cycle length

Arterial portrait

GTS provides the arterial portrait, showing all possible bidirectional timing plans with 1 sec resolution. In total, 805 timing plans are possible, 2 of them provide the maximal sum bandwidth of 56 seconds.

Each green asterisk leads to a particular timing plan: offsets and phase sequences ("orders") are shown together with the time-space diagram. The dark green asterisks mark the bandwidths pairs with maximal sum. The blue circles mark the bandwidth pairs that are impossible in this arterial.

Three arterial timing plans below correspond to the bandwidth pairs marked by green squares in the AP.

Inbound and outbound bandwidths are indicated in green and blue, correspondingly.

The inbound direction in the diagrams is top-down, the outbound one is the opposite.

Inbound bandwidth: 31 seconds

Outbound bandwidth: 25 seconds
